Falterfield Upper School is a comprehensive school with an intake of approximately 900 13-16 year olds and 500 Sixth Form students. Its present staff number is around 160 teaching and 80 non-teaching and support staff.

Falterfield was rated 'excellent' in its recent OFSTED inspection and is particularly strong in Media Arts, English and Social Sciences. The school rarely sumbits its results for governmental league tables because of its policy on equality of opportunity and individual needs, but is known to be on a par with local private schools in A-C grade achievement.

The current Headteacher is Kate Davies, who has been with the school for nine years. Other senior staff include:

    The school has Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 teams in hockey, football, netball, basketball, rugby and cricket and also has competitors at these levels in tennis, cross-country running, athletics and badminton.

    It also has an orchestra, string orchestra, wind band, choir, swing band, brass group, flute choir and saxophone group, as well as several student bands and dance groups.

    The school is a Centre for Teacher Training and has approximately 20 students per year train through its system to NQT status. Around 3 or 4 of those trained join the school's staff on a permanent basis.
