'The Cat' was a star goalie for the Leafs, and, although he's got around a bit
since, he's still excellent. He won the CHL and AHL top goaltender awards
in 1991 and 1992 repsectively, before joining the Leafs full-time in 1992-1993. He
also gained the title of AHL Rookie of the Year and made the first All-Star team.
He was twice an All-Star in the QMJHL and a member of Team Canada in the 1990
World Junior Championships.
He moved on from the Leafs in 1999, joining the Vancouver Canucks. Although heralded as a possible saviour, he became second choice and moved to LA. He was outstanding, and played a big part of getting them into the playoffs - somewhere he hadn't been since 1996. They blasted through 4-2 against Detroit, and pushed eventual winners Colorado to a game seven, Potvin posting a .909 and a 2.44 GAA. He also managed two shutouts in two games, an incredible feat considering that the Kings had only had two playoff shutouts in 33 years previously. |
