Rod, as well as having a really cool surname, is a real utility player. Featuring on both the penalty kill and power play, he is amongst Philadelphia's all-time highest scorers and excels in the playoffs, tying for the lead with Claude Lemieux in 1997 (13 goals).

After moving to Carolina in 1999-2000, Rod sustained a foot injury and only managed 45-9-22. However, he made a complete recovery and came back to post 79-20-36 - still low by his standards, but much better nevertheless. His playoffs were rather more subdued, posting 6-1-3 against New Jersey. Regardless of this, he is still a key link for the Hurricanes.
